Honda Engine GX240 Mortar Mixer Motor

What to do when your Honda stops and there is gas in the oil.

Oh no! Theres gas in the oil of my Honda GX240.

If you’ve noticed gas in the oil reservoir of your Honda GX240, it’s important to take action as soon as possible. This issue can cause damage to the engine if left untreated, but fortunately, there are some steps you can take to fix the problem.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Drain the oil: The first step is to drain the contaminated oil from the engine. You’ll need to locate the oil drain plug on either side of the bottom of the block flange and remove it, allowing the old oil to flow out. Be sure to dispose of the contaminated oil properly.
  2. Check the carburetor: A faulty carburetor can cause gas to leak into the oil reservoir. Check to make sure the carburetor is functioning properly and not allowing too much fuel to flow into the engine. Pull the three 10mm nuts that hold the plastic air intake cover off, disconnect linkage and remove the carburator, spray with carburetor cleaner. If the carburetor needs to be adjusted or repair, consult the owner’s manual or a professional mechanic. Then reverse the order. (We do stock Honda small engine carburetors but it requires the serial number of your engine, which you can email, text or call us with)
  3. Refill with fresh oil: Once the contaminated oil has been drained and the oil filter replaced, refill the engine with fresh, clean oil. Be sure to use the oil recommended in the owner’s manual for best performance. Run the engine for 10 minutes then drain the oil and refill one more time.
  4. Test the engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, checking for any signs of abnormal behavior or unusual noises. If the engine is running smoothly and there are no signs of further contamination, the issue should be resolved.

By following these steps, you can fix the issue of gas in the oil reservoir of your Honda GX240 and keep your engine running smoothly. Remember to perform regular maintenance on your equipment to prevent issues like this from occurring in the future.
