Aerial Lift and Elevating Work Platform Safety

When you are working on a boom lift, scissor lift, mast climber, scaffold, or any other method of working at height, ask yourself one vital question:

“If I get injured, incapacitated, who’s there to know it, and do they have the knowledge and skill to effect a rescue?”

If you’re working on a mast climber with four or five other masons and tenders, make sure at least one of them is a qualified operator who can bring the mast climber down in the case of an emergency.

If you are working in a boom lift or scissor lift, do you have a way to let someone on the ground know if you suffer an injury, and is that person trained in how to bring the unit down from the ground controls?

Make sure you think about these issues, and put safeguards in place BEFORE you work at height.
