Masonry Training Program sponsored by Masonry Association of Georgia – Masonry Apprenticeship Training Program

Masonry Training Program sponsored by Masonry Association of Georgia, Inc. in partnership with Jollay Masonry

What Is The Masonry Association Of Georgia Masonry Training Program?
Association Members are dedicated to training our future workforce through the three-year masonry
apprenticeship training program registered with the Georgia Department of Labor.

What Does The Three-year Masonry Training Program Involve?
Apprenticeship is a competency-based Eight Stage training program consisting of 432 hours of related
classroom and lab training. On-the-job-training (OJT) of 6,000 hours with your participating employer is
required to receive your certification from the Georgia Department of Labor.
There are six semesters of related training. You will attend two semesters a year. Each semester is
twenty-one weeks. Apprentices will be given the opportunity to complete three stages of the program
during the first and second year and two stages during the third year.
The curriculum has been developed by the National Center of Construction Education and Research
(NCCER). The curriculum will cover safe and efficient practices in mason tending, laying brick and block,
wall performance, mortar composition and mixing, tools and equipment, specialty products, preformed
concrete products, stone, and blueprint reading. These are just some of the areas of training you will
receive.

What Will I Be Paid As An Apprentice?
A Progressive pay scale is used as a minimum guideline to determine apprentices’ hourly wage. This pay
scale is based on the Eight Stages and accumulated on-the-job-training (OJT). Credit maybe given for
previous experience.

What Are The Qualifications To Apply?
New apprentices may apply to start the apprenticeship program in July or December each year.
Registration is held one month before the start of the new semester. Contact your employer or the MAG
Executive Director to find out the exact dates for registration.
if you are not currently working for a MAG participating employer and would like to start a rewarding
career as a mason, call the MAG office at 770-310-1885 to schedule an appointment. You will be
assisted with your apprenticeship application and guided towards employment opportunities with a
participating employer.

What Does It Cost?
Each student is ultimately responsible for each semester’s tuition and books. Employers may or may not
offer payroll-deduction for tuition and books. Please review your employer’s apprenticeship program
training policy regarding tuition and book cost. Textbooks are issued the first night of class to
apprentices upon receipt of book fee.

Who Are The Instructors?
The best way to learn is from an instructor who has hands-on experience in the masonry trade. MAG
instructors are veterans of their trade and offer years of experience. Guest instructors also offer their
experience from their field to lecture and demonstrate their products.

Where Is The Apprenticeship Training Center Located?
The training center is located at 2874 Franklin Street, Avondale Estates, GA. Jollay Masonry has
generously donated this training space for the MAG program.

When Are Classes Held?
Apprenticeship classes are held weekly on Tuesdays from 3:30 PM until 7:30 PM.

What Would I Do?
The majority of your time in class will be spent in the training center doing hands-on activities and
honing your skills to become productive in the workplace. There is a small component of
classroom/book work as well.

How High Can I Go?
Masons can work a full lifetime career as a hands-on craftsman and achieve a very comfortable lifestyle.
A mason can continue to work in the field or continue his or her career in any of the following areas:
Mason Foreman, Estimator, Senior Estimator. Purchaser, Project Supervisor, Senior Project Manager, or
eventually own your own company and be recognized as a mason contractor.

What We Look For…
A person with a good attitude, able to get to work daly and on time, willingness to learn the trade and
eager to advance their knowledge through a masonry apprenticeship training program.
