Lately it is hard to be suprised when the latest tech product comes out. There are so many new ideas for uses of computers, phones and robots. The masonry industry gets few innovations though which makes SAM an eye opener. Aside from drones, phones and hydraulic mixers little has changed in the last twenty years in our industry. Until now, at the World of Concrete 2018 I had the opportunity to meet S.A.M. (Semi-Automated Mason).
This year at the #worldofconcrete2018 it was amazinng to watch the #bricklayer500 finals and see SAM in the background laying brick on its own. Look at the image above, SAM is just left of the jumbotron.
Do I think SAM will replace the mason? No. It will take many masons to run SAM.
Do I think it will help our industry? Yes! It will help masons lay more brick and do a good job at it. Therefore brick construction will be more affordable, more standardized and quicker making it even more attractive.
Sam is a long way from mainstream construction, but it is a look at the future.
